Centrica plc today announced an agreement to purchase the entire output of the Braes of Doune wind farm from Airtricity. The 72MW project is currently under construction and will consist of 36 2MW turbines on a site area of almost 1,000 acres. The new facility, located in Stirlingshire is expected to be operational during Autumn 2006.
The output from Braes of Doune will contribute to meeting 6% of Centrica’s overall renewable target for 2007/8.
On the deal, Airtricity’s Chief Executive, Eddie O’Connor, stated “ We are delighted to have completed a deal for the output of our Braes of Doune facility with such a prestigious organisation as Centrica plc. As a company, we are interested in developing joint ventures to help facilitate the strong international growth of the company. Currently, we are developing in Scotland, England, the US and looking at developing further joint ventures in China.
