Centrica Energy has commenced the consultation process for its planned new dedicated biomass power station.
Centrica Energy has commenced the consultation process for its planned new dedicated biomass power station. The station will have a capacity of up to 80MW and it will be located on the site of its existing Roosecote gas fired station. As part of the consultation phase Centrica is hosting an exhibition to allow people to view the initial proposals and options under consideration.
As well as plans to hold an exhibition, this week Centrica also delivered a leaflet outlining the proposals to over 37,000 homes and businesses in the area.
Tony Jarvis, Centrica Energy, Head of Thermal Power Projects, said: "We have a good track record in delivering major energy infrastructure projects and one thing we understand is that it's essential to listen to the views of the local community. We appreciate that the construction process can be disruptive and we want to share our plans so that it's clear what we want to do and how we want to do it. We see consultation as a two way conversation and we will be listening to all views before finalising our proposals".
The exhibition will be held at The Forum in Barrow from 12.00 - 19.00 hrs on Friday 11thand 10.00 - 16.30hrs at the same venue on Saturday 12th November.
A second exhibition will take place in early 2012 as the proposals are further developed and the project takes into account initial comments from the consultation.
Centrica Energy plan to submit a planning application for consent for the biomass power station in 2012. Subject to a successful application and following a final investment decision from Centrica construction would likely commence summer 2013 and would last approximately 36 months.
Project information and electronic copies of reports will be available on the Centrica website www.centrica.com/roosecotebiomass . You can also register you name and email address to receive information or to submit a view or ask any questions.
