National awards recognise British Gas' outstanding track record for helping carers
At this week’s Working Families Awards, which celebrated Britain’s top employers for working families British Gas won praise for their efforts to help working carers juggle the balance between home and work life. The week coincides with National Work Life Week.
In partnership with the Institute for Employment Studies, the awards recognise employers which support parents, carers and flexible workers with work-life balance and career development.
British Gas won the ‘Best for carers and eldercare’ category. The award also recognises support from the highest levels of the organisation (Ian Peters chairs the Employers for Carers Leadership Group) and evidence of a well-developed and comprehensive approach to carers with widespread coverage across the organisation and clear business benefits.
Geoff Kitchener, national chair, Centrica Carers Network, said: “This is a tremendous achievement; it’s great to be recognised externally for our efforts in supporting working carers.”
Sarah Jackson OBE, chief executive, Working Families, added: “These employers are able to show the positive effect of flexible working and family friendly policies on the financial bottom line.”
