British Gas response to the statement made by Ed Davey, Secretary of State for Energy & Climate Change
Responding to the statement made by Ed Davey, Secretary of State for Energy & Climate Change, Ian Peters, Managing Director of Residential Energy at British Gas, said:
"Rebuilding trust in Britain’s energy market is a top priority, which is why we strongly support the proposals outlined by the Secretary of State today.
“We welcome the new annual review of competition for the energy sector, and we share the ambition for 24-hour switching, which will encourage more customers to engage with Britain’s competitive energy market.
“British Gas is already working with others to make switching easier and faster, and we look forward to talking with the Secretary of State about this.
“In the long-term, the introduction of smart meters to all homes in Britain will enable quicker, easier switching – potentially within hours. British Gas has led the roll-out of this technology with more than one million smart meters installed so far.
“The whole industry must work together to transform switching for customers, ensuring they still have all the consumer protections they need, and making sure the process is as smooth and swift as possible.”
