British Gas customers can now pay their energy bills through an iPhone or any Android smart phone , courtesy of a recent update. The new iPhone app follows a release for Android-based smart phone users last December http://www.britishgas.co.uk/iphone.
This makes British Gas the UK’s first energy supplier to offer the option of making a payment through any smart phone.
More than 630,000 people now use the app since it was launched four years ago. It currently has a 4.5 star rating on Apple’s App Store and 4.6 stars on Google Play, the home of Android apps.
Arslan Sharif, Head of Digital Services, said: “We are very pleased to be the first energy company to offer our customers the ability to make payments through both Apple and Android apps.
“More and more customers are embracing ‘mobile’ to interact with us on the go and it’s great to see the majority five-star customer comments on the app stores – it’s simple and easy to use and they love it!”
The update allows both credit and debit cards to be used, with card information only stored for up to 30 minutes at a time.
The changes have been added alongside the existing features, which include being able to submit meter readings, book an engineer visit and view consumption levels.
British Gas is expecting to share details on future mobile developments in the coming months.
