In a report by Carbon Clear, Centrica has secured a Top 10 position for carbon reporting performance.
In the fifth report by Carbon Clear which ranks FTSE 100 companies on their carbon reporting and management performance, Centrica has secured joint sixth place, the highest position held by an energy company. This is an improvement from ranking 13th in 2014 and 20th in 2013.
The leading carbon management company based their analysis on more than 60 criteria spanning carbon management and reporting, strategy and targets, emissions reduction and how carbon reporting is used to engage stakeholders. This Top 10 position therefore demonstrates Centrica is taking meaningful and transparent action to meet ambitious carbon management targets, while mitigating the risks of climate change.
Jim Rushen, Group Head of Environment at Centrica said: “We are delighted to have secured a Top 10 place in this year’s report. As a 21st Century energy company, we recognise the important contribution we can make to society by addressing climate change and will remain committed to doing just that - whether it’s through the innovative products and services we provide our customers or through the energy we source which heats and lights millions of homes every day.”
Mark Chadwick, Chief Executive of Carbon Clear, commented: “It’s encouraging to see some companies making good progress in their efforts to tackle climate change. These are the real ‘game changers’ who go above and beyond in terms of carbon management. However, what is clear from our report is that much more needs to be done and sooner rather than later.”
The result follows top marks awarded for disclosure and action on climate change by CDP, placing Centrica in the top 1% globally and joint-first out of all FTSE 350 companies. It also comes after securing eighth place and being the best performing utility in Corporate Knights’ Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World Index.
