The team at Barrow Gas Terminals is celebrating a major milestone following the completion of an £80million project at the site.
A 200-strong group has been working on the two-year project to connect the South Morecambe and North Morecambe Terminals via a new 1.1km pipeline which included upgrades to the North Morecambe Terminal.
Now complete, all gas produced offshore at the Morecambe fields will be processed by the North Morecambe Terminal before going into the National Grid’s national transmission system.
Willie McComb, Project Manager for the Barrow Terminals Project, said: “The last two years have seen 200 people from across both local and national companies working together to make sure the project is completed safely, and we are delighted gas is now being processed through the North Morecambe Terminal to mark the end of this major investment.
“Over the course of the project the team has also made time to support local causes, and we are delighted to have raised more than £40,000 for charity since we started work.”
Darrell Hampshire, Terminals Manager at the Barrow Gas Terminals, said: “The Barrow Terminals Project was critical to the future of the site and will allow us to produce and process gas for many years to come.
“The completion of this work and other projects means we have invested more than £100million in our Morecambe Bay operations in the past two years as we continue to secure gas for UK homes.”
