CDP has recognised Centrica for leading the change towards a lower carbon future
Centrica has been identified as a global leader for action and disclosure on climate change by CDP, an international NGO reporting to investors representing around a third of the worlds invested capital.
In CDP’s annual report, Centrica earned a position in the Climate A List which is comprised of the top 9% of companies who demonstrate leadership in combatting climate change. We are one of only 15 UK companies and 19 utilities from across the world to feature in the List. This builds on our enduring commitment to effectively manage and disclose risks and opportunities related to climate change, having been ranked as a leader by CDP for nine consecutive years.
Jim Rushen, Centrica’s Group Head of Environment said: “We are really proud to have again been recognised by CDP for our efforts to tackle climate change which will give confidence to investors and other stakeholders, that we are effectively managing our environmental impact. Climate change is one of society’s greatest global challenges and with over 90% of our carbon emissions arising from customer consumption, the greatest contribution we can make is to empower our customers to reduce their use. We’re doing just that and expect to invest £1.2 billion over five years to bring innovative products and services to market that put customers in control over their energy through our global Connected Home and Distributed Energy and Power businesses.”
Paul Simpson, CDP’s Chief Executive Officer said: “We congratulate the 193 A List companies that are leading the change towards our low carbon future. Companies are key actors in enabling the global economy to achieve its new climate goals, and the leadership for this group points the way for others to take bold action and capitalise on the many opportunities that await.“
