CDP has recognised Centrica for leading the world towards a more water-secure future
Centrica has been identified as a global leader for taking strategic action on sustainable water management by CDP, an international NGO reporting to investors representing around a third of the worlds invested capital.
Centrica was among one of only 24 companies to have earned a place on the Water A List which is reserved for companies who have a best practice approach to effective management of the precious resource. We are also one of only two utilities and five UK companies to feature.
This result builds on Centrica’s leadership position for environmental protection. Last month for example, Centrica was ranked in CDP’s Climate A List which is comprised of the top 9% of companies globally who have demonstrated world-class action and disclosure to combat climate change.
Morgan Gillespy, Head of Water at CDP said: “The business case for action to improve water security has never been stronger or more urgent. We congratulate those businesses that have achieved a position on CDP’s Water A List. These companies are responding to market demand for environmental accountability and at the same time are making progress towards achieving a water-secure world. And, as our report shows, this will make all the difference to companies working to fulfil their carbon reduction potential and the sustainable development goals”.
Jim Rushen, Centrica’s Group Head of Environment said: “I believe business has a vital role in building a more sustainable future so I’m really proud CDP has recognised our efforts to help make this a reality. By taking action to effectively manage risks and opportunities related to water security and climate change, we are not only protecting the environment but we are making our business stronger and more efficient too. This result gives confidence to investors and other key stakeholders that we have strategies in place to effectively manage our environmental impact”.
