Centrica Hive responds to Government plans to transform outcomes for ageing population
The impact of an ageing population is becoming more immediate than ever, with 6.5 million of us caring for an elderly, ill or disabled relative.
To explore how we can ensure healthier, happier lives and shape our future for the better, the Government has announced a series of ambitious new Grand Challenges, which will aim to drive innovations to help people enjoy an additional five years of healthy, independent life by 2035. The Grand Challenges also call on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help prevent cancer deaths as well as other chronic diseases through earlier diagnosis.
The UK is leading the creation of new technologies and products to improve health and care and make sure we stay connected to our communities.
Following the Prime Minister’s speech on the Industrial Strategy and the Grand Challenges today, Centrica Hive has responded in support of the Ageing Society Grand Challenge.
Claire Miles, Managing Director of Centrica Hive, said: “We're in full support of the Grand Ageing Challenge and think there is potential for the UK to play a leading role.
“We are developing and investing in innovative technology and services which will provide greater reassurance and peace of mind for families, helping loved ones stay connected and living independently in their own homes for longer with our market leading smart home ecosystem.”
Thriving in old age is one of society’s biggest challenges, and Centrica is well placed to meet the needs of an aging population, serving around 27 million customers globally and leading the way in providing smart home solutions.
Centrica is already committed to providing support to people and technology that can change the world. With the launch of its Active Ageing Challenge earlier this year, the company sought to find and provide funding support for start-ups with tech solutions that help improve the quality of life of an ageing society.
