Beth talks through her Marketing summer placement experience with Centrica
My journey began as a summer intern in 2012 where I worked within the brand experience team in British Gas. I was given full responsibility on delivering an email marketing campaign in addition to being a British Gas Brand Ambassador. This was an exciting project to work on and from doing it I got to learn a lot of new skills. I was required to brief the agency to create the email and manage this through to creation. Through the management of this email, I was required to feedback on the copy and creative as well as getting legal sign off. During my internship I was fully supported, when I started I was put in contact Bonita who was my “summer buddy.” All of summer buddies are already on the graduate scheme, so this was great as it meant that I could learn more about the marketing graduate scheme as well as having someone to go to when I had a questions.
During the internship we were given lots of opportunities and encouraged to meet with other people in different areas of the wider marketing team. I found this really beneficial, as it allowed me to gain a real understanding of how a marketing team operates.
The internship was a very fun summer, I worked hard in the day and learnt lots and in the evenings I socialised with the other summer placement students. It was great that Centrica provided us with accommodation as it meant that I did not have to worry paying for it and also that all the summer placement students were living together. Most of all, the summer placement allowed me to secure myself a place on the Marketing Graduate scheme.
