Emily Crass: My journey to the Centrica Graduate Programme
Emily Crass
Prior to joining the graduate scheme at Centrica, I studied German at the University of Nottingham. My third year was spent working in Frankfurt as an HR intern, which developed my interest in a career in HR. Following graduation, I spent a year working as an HR assistant, gaining generalist experience along with exposure to some specialist areas, particularly recruitment. I was particularly attracted to the rotational element of the HR graduate scheme at Centrica as I wanted to gain as much experience in different divisions of HR and locations in the UK as possible.
Currently, I am in my first three month placement with British Gas in Edinburgh, working in a customer-facing role for one of the fuel poverty schemes. I’m taking inbound calls and making outbound calls to customers in addition to individual and team project work. I have also spent time with other departments within British Gas Business, including Solar and Electric Vehicles, to try and gain a broader understanding of the business units. I am really excited to be accompanying an engineer on post-install inspection visits soon too! In my next placement I will be working as an HR Advisor for Centrica Storage based in Hedon which I’m really looking forward to. Working at Centrica offers fantastic opportunities to gain experience in a variety of roles within the HR field and across different locations with diverse cultures.
