At Centrica, we are dedicated to creating a safe and equal environment where all colleagues feel empowered to bring their whole, authentic selves to work.

We believe that diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) are fundamental to our success and strength as an organisation. That’s why we are determined to be a change maker and leader in this space, demonstrating that DE&I not only makes us stronger but also aligns with our purpose of energising a greener, fairer future.

We recognise the unique challenges faced by the Trans community. Although a small percentage of our society, they have been subjected to disproportionate marginalisation over recent months.

In response, we are proud to announce the launch of our new Transgender Inclusion Policy to create an equitable workplace for colleagues. This first of its kind policy in the Energy & Utilities industry has been developed in collaboration with our + Network, our People Leadership Team, and our Unions (GMB, Unison, and Unite). This policy is a testament to our commitment to supporting all our colleagues and ensuring they have the resources and support they need to thrive.

As part of this policy, we have made significant changes to our paid time away from work provisions for colleagues seeking gender-affirming care, allowing employees a reasonable amount of paid time off for medical procedures and necessary recovery. These changes acknowledge the unique nature of gender-affirming treatments and the current landscape of transgender healthcare, which often requires frequent travel to few specialist centres.

“We recognise the struggles of the Trans community and hope that this policy helps demonstrate our commitment to ensuring that Every Colleague Counts and can feel safe to bring their whole selves to work.”

Kat Parsons, Group Head of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Additionally, the policy outlines both internal and external support mechanisms for managers who are supporting colleagues undergoing these treatments. This comprehensive approach ensures that all our colleagues receive the support they need to be their best selves at Centrica.

We are committed to becoming an employer of choice for LGBTQ+ individuals and amplifying our support for LGBTQ+ colleagues and customers nationwide.

Together, we will continue to build an inclusive and supportive workplace where everyone can thrive.
